Islanders win on back-to-back nights against Acadie-Bathurst
It took 5 games and a shootout but the Islanders finally have their first home win of the season.
Charlottetown opened the scoring just under 10 minutes into the first period on a goal from Sam King, his first of the season. Nikita Alexandrov and Sullivan Sparkes picked up assists on the play.
As the first intermission neared, the Isles were being out-shot 11-6 but lead by a goal after 20 minutes of action.
As the second period rolled around, King was able to light the lamp again, scoring on a short-handed breakaway to give his team a 2-0 lead.
Just six minutes later the Titan answered back.
With King serving a double minor for high-sticking, Titan forward Liam Murphy took advantage and scored his second of the season.
Minutes later the Titan scored again on the man-advantage, with captain Jeffrey Truchon-Viel picking up the goal.
Acadie-Bathurst was not done there, as just over a minute later the Titan took the lead on a deflection by Antoine Morand.
As the teams entered their locker rooms for the second intermission, the Titan lead by a goal and were outshooting the Isles 29-15.
Both teams played a defensive third period, but halfway through Islanders forward Adam Marsh was able to finish off a play from Samuel Meisenheimer and Gregor MacLeod to tie the game.
The teams exchanged chances in the closing minutes of the period but that solved nothing so we were off to some overtime.
The Isles and Titan went back and forth in O.T, with the Isles receiving a power play 1:25 into the extra frame. The Isles had their opportunities but just couldn’t beat Tmej.
After overtime solved nothing, the game continued into the shootout.
In the shootout the goaltenders stood tall.
Welsh stopped all three shooters he faced, with Tmej closing the door on King and Alexandrov before Isles third shooter Keith Getson was able to beat the Titan goalie between the legs to win the game.
Charlottetown Islanders next home game is Thursday, October 19 versus the Sea Dogs. Thursday night is student night, where all students with a valid student ID receive discounted tickets at $3 and $3 drinks for all of who are of age in attendance.
