Join the team: Become an Islanders volunteer today
Westley Hood has been a volunteer with the Islanders since their inaugural season back in 2013, but his volunteer work with the organization goes back even further than that, dating back to the early days of the P.E.I. Rocket.
“I’ve been with the Islanders now since they started here,” he said. “I was with the Rocket for three or four year before that and now I’m doing the Chase The Ace [for the Islanders].”
Hood, a Nationally recognized volunteer, is passionate about his work to say the least.
He wanders the rink on game days selling his tickets, roaring above the noise of the crowd and chatting with fans, and in that time one thing has become clear.
No matter where you are in the EastLink Centre, you are bound to here the call of “Get your Chase The Ace tickets,” from Hood at least once.
In 2016, Hood was awarded the Laura Cole National Volunteer Award by Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada for his work with the organization. Over the past two decades Hood has raised more than $250,000 for the Children’s Wish Foundation, roughly translating to just over two granted wishes a year.
Hood’s passion for his volunteer work is only rivaled by his Christmas Spirit.
In the final home games leading up the the Christmas break, Hood can be seen fully dressed in bright Holiday attire, with a portable speaker (playing nothing but Christmas tunes) strapped to his belt as he wanders the stands selling tickets.
“I dress up every year for this. It’s just nice to be dressed up for Christmas, getting everybody in the spirit and getting them in the mood for Christmas.”
