The Charlottetown Islanders have announced that Brad Mackenzie will return as the assistant coach for the 2017/18 season.
Mackenzie made his QMJHL debut behind the bench with the Islanders at the start of the 2016/17 season.
Alongside Head Coach Jim Hulton and Associate Coach Guy Girouard, the trio led the team to their best season ever. The team went 46-18-4-0 in the regular season.
In the playoffs, the Islanders swept the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the first round and then also swept the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the second round. This was the first year the team has ever made the third round, but lost 4-1 to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
Before joining the Islanders, Mackenzie was an Assistant Coach with the UPEI Panthers. In addition, he is the current Executive Director for Andrews Hockey Growth Programs.
The Charlottetown native attended the Vierumaki Sports Institute in Finland where he studied to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport & Leisure Management with specialization in Ice Hockey coaching. While in Finland he was also the Assistant Coach of the Vierumaki A-Junior team and did work with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association and the International Ice Hockey Federation.
