Islanders forward Brett Budgell was one of 44 players invited to Hockey Canada’s U-18 Selection Camp. The camp will take place in late July when players will compete for a spot to represent their country at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton and Red Deer this August.
Budgell is one of 26 forwards invited to the camp. The tournament previously known as the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, has now been re-named to the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and is one of the best tournaments for competition and development in this age group.
A second round draft pick in the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft, Charlottetown selected Budgell 25th overall. After joining the Islanders at the midpoint of last season Budgell recorded 22 points in 32 games and added another 12 points in 18 playoff games.
The event is being co-hosted in Edmonton and Red Deer with Canada playing all of its games out of Rogers Place in Edmonton.
