Introducing the newest Islander: Nikita Alexandrov

The Charlottetown Islanders had the 50th pick in the 2017 CHL Import Draft. With their selection, they chose 16-year-old Nikita Alexandrov.

Alexandrov is a German born forward who stands at 5’11, 163lbs.

Last season, he scored 32 goals and added 29 assists in 36 games with Iserlohner EC U19 in the DNL league.

Now, he will take his talents to the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown, where he is excited to wear the black and gold.

“The fans can expect that I love scoring goals and love being a big part of the team. I want to help the team and the organization by helping my teammates in any situation and by doing what the coach tells me to do,” said Alexandrov.

When he hits the ice as an Islander, Alexandrov will focus on contributing offensively.

“My biggest strengths are involving my line and teammates into the game and getting pucks to the net. In Germany, I was known for assisting on goals, and scoring goals.”

Nikita comes from a family of hockey.

His father, Igor, played in the World Junior Championships with Russia (and had seven points in seven games) and played a season in the American Hockey League with the Springfield Indians (10 goals, 16 assists in 69 games).

Igor’s career spanned from 1991 until his retirement in 2013. He now coaches in the MHL in Russia.

Nikita’s 20-year-old brother, Artjom, is also a hockey player. Last season, he played with Atlanty Mytishchi of the MHL in Russia.

Nikita has been able to use his father and brother for advice.

“My father taught me to score goals, to be a team player and to play at a high level by playing with older players. He also taught me skating, handling the puck and shooting. My brother gave me tips about training and we helped each other when we could. If I had questions or worries, I would ask my brother or father,” said Nikita.

Nikita was excited to be selected by the Charlottetown Islanders, and can’t wait to get things started this Fall, even if he doesn’t know much about the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

“I don’t know anything about the QMJHL but I know that there are many very skilled players and there is big competition. I know that Charlottetown is a great team with good coaching and very skilled players. I am excited about the city, the fans, the arena and my new teammates.”
