Billeting hockey players is very important to the success of every Major Junior hockey team across Canada.
Every year the Charlottetown Islanders have a turnover of a couple of billet families and this year is no different. The Islanders are currently making a list for billets to accommodate its needs for the upcoming season. Billet families provide a support system for the players which is instrumental in the overall success of the team. Billets are imperative to the success of the team. The support that is given to each player, be it short term or long term, can have an impact on the player’s life and experience while with the Islanders. Billets are required to provide healthy meals, a warm bed and loving home away from the rink. The Charlottetown Islanders will provide all transportation for the player.
Training camp opens for the Islanders on August 17 in Cornwall. All players will be staying together in residence until August 26th at which time they will be moving into their billet families. With the new season beginning some players will be moving away from home for the first time. Settling into a new home will have a lifelong impact on their playing careers, at whatever level that ends, as well as their development in everyday society.
