Islanders sweep Halifax to advance to the third round
Charlottetown arrived at the EastLink Centre on Wednesday with a commanding three game lead over the Mooseheads and they were determined to finish things on home ice.
The Islanders were forced to play catch-up mid-way through the second period though as Filip Zadina and Joel Bishop each scored less than three minutes apart to give Halifax a two goal lead.
But the Islanders refused to back down and with just over two minutes remaining in the second period they answered back.
With Bishop in the box for checking from behind the Islanders power play went to work with Daniel Hardie eventually blasting a pass from Hunter Drew past Alexis Gravel to cut into the Halifax lead.
The Islanders continued to roll in the third, with Nikita Alexandrov firing his sixth goal of the post-season past Gravel, tying the game at two.
Charlottetown would strike again with just under six minutes remaining, with Keith Getson rushing up ice and beating the Halifax netminder low to the blocker side to give the Islanders their first lead of the game.
The Islanders would not look back from there, as in the closing minutes Derek Gentile would put the game away, sliding the puck into the empty Mooseheads net to seal the Game 4 win and series sweep over the Halifax Mooseheads.
Charlottetown can now look forward to some much deserved rest as they await their third round opponents.
