Lukas Cormier commits to Islanders

The Charlottetown Islanders announced today that Lukas Cormier, the team’s first round draft pick in the 2018 QMJHL entry draft, has signed a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League contract with the team.

Cormier, a 5’09”, 160 lbs defenseman was chosen with the 4th overall selection. Last season the Moncton Flyers grad racked up 43 points, including 15 goals and 28 assists.

Islanders Head Coach and General Manager Jim Hulton had the following to say about Cormier following the draft, “He is your prototypical modern defenceman, a mobile guy who should be able to carry the torch when P.O. Joseph moves on. We’re thrilled. He’s the exact type of player we want in our organization.”

Recently Cormier was invited to Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Development Camp, which will take place this month in Calgary. Cormier will also attend the Islanders training camp, which opens August 17 in Cornwall.
