The Islanders head to third round of playoffs for first time in franchise history

The Charlottetown Islanders are 8 and 0 in the QMJHL playoffs, brought to you by Roland Tours, and are off to the third round.

They completed the sweep on Thursday night in Cape Breton, as they beat the Screaming Eagles 5-2.

This is the first time the P.E.I. Rocket/Charlottetown Islanders organization has advanced past the second round.

The Islanders now sit and wait for the completion of two other second round match-ups to see who they will play.

The Islanders were without Francois Beauchemin (serving game two of two game suspension), Adam Marsh (serving game one of three game suspension) and Matthew Grouchy (serving a one game suspension) on Thursday night.

Chris Chaddock moved up in the lineup and made his mark early. He scored his first goal of the playoffs at 3:23 to open the scoring. Filip Chlapik and Kameron Kielly had the assists.

Alex Dostie scored his 6th of the playoffs at 8:45 to make it 2-0. JS Taillefer and Daniel Sprong had the assists.

The Screaming Eagles then stormed back, scoring one before the end of the first period to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the second period, they tied the game 2-2.

Filip Chlapik put the Isles ahead again at 12:46 of the second frame. His third of the playoffs was assisted by Kameron Kielly.

Pascal Aquin scored a beautiful insurance goal in the third period, as he battled through three different defenders and chipped the puck over the shoulder of Kyle Jessiman.

Daniel Sprong put the icing on the cake at 16:25 of the third period. Guillaume Brisebois had the lone assist.

Mark Grametbauer was excellent in net once again, stopping 38 of 40 shots in the win.
