Islanders acquire Blais from Victoriaville for Goulet

The Charlottetown Islanders have acquired forward Samuel Blais from the Victoriaville Tigres in exchange for forward Alexandre Goulet, it was announced today by General Manager Grant Sonier.

19-year-old Blais, a prospect of the St Louis Blues, has appeared in 30 games for the Tigres this season. He has registered 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points.

The Montmagny, QC, native was taken in the 6th round, 176th overall, of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Blues.

“We are bringing in one of the league’s premier offensive players in Blais,” said Sonier.

“To acquire good players, you have to give up good players. Goulet’s been a really good player for the past two years for us but it’s apparent he’s been struggling. A new home is probably what he needs and we needed a spark offensively.”

Goulet was drafted by the Islanders in the 1st round, 19th overall, in the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft. He had 128 points in 160 career games for the Islanders, including 11 goals and 8 assists for 19 points in 29 games this season.

Blais will join the team following the QMJHL’s Christmas break. The Islanders’ next game is Monday, Dec. 28 against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
