Goals were the name of the game Friday night in Bathurst as the Charlottetown Islanders continued their pre-season play against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
Thomas Casey recorded a hat trick and added an assist, while Lukas Cormier recorded four assists on his own, as the Islanders and Titan combined for 15 goals in a 9-6 Islanders victory.
The first period belonged to the Islanders as they took a 4-1 lead in to the first intermission. Drew Johnston kicked off the scoring for Charlottetown before Patrick Leblanc, Casey, and Sam Oliver all added markers before the end of the period.
Justin Gill would get in on the fun early in the second period followed by another Casey goal, this time on the powerplay. The Titan would do their best to make a game of it though near the end of the second, rattling off three straight goals from Ben Allison, Yannic Bastarache, and Dylan Andrews.
Cedric Desruisseaux got the scoring going in the third period as the two teams started trading goals back and forth. Mark Rumsey added a goal for Bathurst before Noah Laaouan put one past Tommy Da Silva. Casey would cap off the scoring with the final marker of the game, tipping in a Cormier point shot to seal the deal for Charlottetown.
Laaouan and Gill each recorded three-point games, while Leblanc, Desruisseaux, and Anthony Hamel each recorded multi-point games. Colten Ellis made 11 saves in his first pre-season appearance while Jacob Goobie made 12 saves, coming in halfway through the game.
The two teams will do it all over again in a week’s time when they take to the ice at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre Sunday, September 20th at 3:00pm. That game will streamed live on the Titan’s YouTube page!
