Blais among notable alumni attending Golf Classic

The newest man to have his name etched on the Stanley Cup returns to the last place he played junior hockey.

Sammy Blais, the St. Louis Blues forward and former Charlottetown Islander, will return to Prince Edward Island on July 4th to be part of the 2nd annual Charlottetown Islanders Golf Classic.

“I’m so excited to come back to Prince Edward Island this summer,” said Blais. “I enjoyed my short time in Charlottetown and can’t wait to catch up with friends and former teammates.”

The newly-turned 23-year old played in 32 games this season with the Blues, recording four points, before joining the Blues in the playoffs for 15 games, scoring once and adding to assists en route to St. Louis’ first-ever Stanley Cup victory. Blais was originally selected in the sixth round, 176th overall, by the Blues in the 2014 NHL Draft.

“Sammy left a mark on the franchise in his run with the Islanders,” said Islanders vice president of sales and marketing Jason Maclean. “His accomplishments thus far in his young career are extremely impressive; not many can say they are a Stanley Cup champion, let alone at just 23. We’re proud to be able to call him a former Islander, and excited that he’ll be joining us at the Golf Classic.”

Blais joins a number of notable Charlottetown Islanders/PEI Rocket alumni confirmed to be in attendance July 4th at the Golf Classic, including current Edmonton Oiler Josh Currie, Antoine Bibeau, Chris Doyle, Matthew Welsh, Keith Getson, Hunter Drew, Mitchell Balmas, Pascal Aquin, and Nicolas Meloche.
