Game Preview | Sept. 10 vs Acadie-Bathurst

The Charlottetown Islanders welcome a familiar foe to town for pre-season play tonight as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan make their way to Charlottetown for the first time since February 2020.

This will be the first pre-season game played prior to the Labour Day weekend for both teams. A rookie-filled Islanders team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Cape Breton Eagles on August 27th, while the Titan picked up their first pre-season victory the following day with a 6-5 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Both teams will be missing some crucial players as NHL development and rookie camps begin. For Charlottetown, Noah Laaouan and Brett Budgell have already departed for Arizona and Toronto respectively, while Bathurst’s Jaxon Bellamy and Bennett MacArthur have joined Laaouan in Arizona. Titan forward Ben Allison, meanwhile, has departed for Ottawa Senators development camp.

Despite the notable players not in the lineup, there will still be plenty of firepower on the Charlottetown side as many of the team’s veterans will see their first pre-season action. On the back-end, Lukas Cormier, William Trudeau, and Oscar Plandowski all suit up before heading to their respective NHL camps. Upfront, Ben Boyd, Keiran Gallant, Sam Oliver, Patrick Leblanc, Drew Elliott, and Bailey Peach all take to the ice in their first exhibition action.

Most notably upfront, however, is the Islanders debut of Xavier Simoneau. The Montreal Canadiens prospect pulls on the Black and Harvest Gold for the first time in exhibition play. The 20-year-old star was the focal point of Charlottetown’s offseason, sending two first-round picks to the Drummondville Voltigeurs to acquire Simoneau’s services.

Between the pipes, a pair of Jacob’s take to the crease with Jacob Leblanc and Jacob Goobie pulling on the pads. First-round CHL Import Draft selection Oliver Satny arrived in Charlottetown on Thursday but will watch his new teammates from the stands before heading to Buffalo Sabres rookie camp this weekend.

Tickets for tonight’s exhibition game at the MacLauchlan Arena are sold out; we thank all fans for their enthusiasm for Charlottetown Islanders hockey! Couldn’t get your hands on tickets? Stream the game LIVE on our YouTube page!
