Islanders Announce Trades

Charlottetown Islanders General Manager Grant Sonier announced two trades on Sunday.

In the first trade the Charlottetown Islanders traded forward Yan Pavel Laplante and defenseman Julien Leduc to the Victoriaville Tigre. In return the Islanders receive the Tigres 1st round draft picks in 2015 and 2016, as well as a 4th round pick in 2014.

“First round picks are always a valuable asset to an organization as they allow you to acquire or draft players that will help build your team and move it in the right direction going forward”, says Islanders General Manager Grant Sonier.

“To acquire these high picks you must move key players such as Yan Pavel Laplante. Yan Pavel has been an important piece to this franchise for the past two and a half seasons and we wish him all the best going forward”.

Sonier also added “Julien Leduc was a player we acquired at the start of the season to address a position we felt was lacking and we thank him for his efforts this season”.

In a second trade The Charlottetown Islanders traded 19 year old forward Matthew Bursey to the Blainville-Boisbriande Armada. In return the Islanders receive 17 year old forward Matthew Cusson.

Cusson is a 6’01”, 180 lbs forward from Dorval, Quebec. In 10 games this season with the Lachine Maroons of the QJAHL he has 8 goals and 3 assists along with 16 minutes in penalties.

“It is hard to see a player like Matthew Bursey leave as we feel he was sometimes underrated for what he brought to our hockey team”, says Sonier. “In saying that we are very excited to add Matthew Cusson to our lineup. He is a young player coming from a very deep organization. He was having a very strong season in the QJAHL before suffering an eye injury. Now that he has fully recovered we expect to have jim in our lineup for the second half of the season.
