Islanders launch new Major U-18 Female hockey franchise

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Hockey PEI is excited to announce it has officially joined the Maritime Major Female Hockey League along with its neighboring Hockey branches, Hockey New Brunswick and Hockey Nova Scotia.
This announcement brings great excitement around the growing female game here on Prince Edward Island and expands the opportunity for girls in the Under-18 division to have the chance to showcase their skills regionally year round.
With this announcement, Hockey PEI is pleased to announce the two operating groups who have been awarded franchises following the bid application process.
The Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) along with the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) were the two successful groups who will each operate franchises at the Major U18 female level this season on PEI and compete in the MMHL.
“Our organization is very happy to be entering into this partnership with Hockey PEI and working to grow and support the female game here on PEI and across the Maritime region” said Charlottetown Islanders President of Operations, Craig Foster.
The two Prince Edward Island franchises will join the six (6) team league that currently operates out of both New Brunswick (Edza East Moncton Subaru Rockets, Edza West Reds), and Nova Scotia (Action Benefits Penguins, Cape Breton Lynx, Northern Subway Selects).
Further details concerning respective team operations including training camps, staff announcements and more will be communicated in the coming days and weeks ahead.
