Islanders Select Dersch 28th overall

Islanders General Manager Jim Hulton announced today that Charlottetown have selected German defenseman Alexander Dersch 28th overall in the 2018 CHL Import Draft.

The 18-year-old defenseman from Landshut, Germany is 6’3″ and 172 lbs.

Dersch posted 2 goals and 12 assists for 14 points in 32 games last season with the EV Landshut Under-19 team in Germany. He also appeared in 14 games for EV Landshut in the German 3rd Division where he registered one assist.

“We are pleased to add Alexander to our team. He is a big body, right shot defender who will be an excellent fit with our group”, said Islanders Head Coach and General Manager Jim Hulton. “He has proven leadership skills and exhibits the character and grit that we look for in players. We look forward to seeing Alexander in an Islanders uniform”.

Dersch will join the Islanders for training camp in August.
