Islanders select Swiss forward Jobin in Import Draft

The CHL Import Draft was held this afternoon and the Charlottetown Islanders added another player to their lineup ahead of the 2019-2020 season.

The Isles selected Swiss-born forward Gaetan Jobin with the 39th selection of the draft, a player who Islanders head coach and general manager Jim Hulton identified as an offensive threat.

“Gaetan is a player that intrigued us during our research for this draft,” said Hulton. “He has competed internationally and has been a consistent offensive player for many seasons.”

Jobin is an 18-year old forward who spent last season playing for the Friboug-Gotteron Under-20 Elite team in Switzerland. In 43 games, Jobin recorded 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 points, the third-most among players under 18. His 19 goals were good enough for seventh among all players.

The 6’0 forward also represented Switzerland internationally at the World Under-18 Hockey Championships, recording two goals and four points in seven games.

“Our reports indicate that Gaetan is an excellent skater with high hockey IQ who should play an offensive role for us.” added Hulton on what to expect from the newest Islander. “We look forward to him joining our club in August.”

From all of us in the Charlottetown Islanders organization, we’d like to welcome Gaetan Jobin to Prince Edward Island and to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League!
