Lukas Cormier named to Team Canada U18 World Championship preliminary roster

The good news continues to roll in for Lukas Cormier.
The Islanders’ budding star, fresh off his Charlottetown Islanders Rookie of the Year nod and being named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team, has been named to Team Canada’s training camp roster for the 2019 World Under-18 Men’s Hockey Championships.
Cormier is coming off of a record-setting year for the Islanders, finishing tied for fifth among all QMJHL defensemen with 15 goals, a rookie franchise record, to go along with 36 points.
Freshly off of celebrating his 17th birthday last week, Cormier is just one of eight 2002-born players invited to the camp, and one of five QMJHL players overall, joining Val d’Or Foreurs netminder Jonathan Lemieux, Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward Nathan Legare, Chicoutimi Sagueneens forward Hendrix Lapierre, and Shawinigan Cataractes forward Mavrik Bourque.
This will be Cormier’s second time pulling on the red and white for Team Canada; he was a member of Team Red at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge this past November in Saint John.
“It’s always a huge honour to represent Canada at a world championship,” said Cormier. “I’m really looking forward to it and am ready for the challenge.”
Cormier leaves for training camp in Finland on Sunday. The 2019 World Under-18 Men’s Hockey Championships take place in Sweden from April 18th-28th. Join us in wishing Lukas the best of luck at training camp!
