Two games this weekend in Cape Breton could ultimately decide where the Charlottetown Islanders finish the regular season. The first of those two games is tonight at Centre 200.
The Islanders (24-29-5-1) didn’t end their Quebec road trip on a positive note with two losses to the Sherbrooke Phoenix and Shawinigan Cataractes. Still, the Islanders remain two points up on the Eagles for seventh in the Eastern Conference standings while holding a game in hand. Sitting three points behind the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for sixth, nothing is decided for the QMJHL Playoffs; it’s entirely possible that the Islanders could face any one of five different teams in the first round.
Meanwhile, the Eagles (24-32-3-1) have lost three straight games, including back-to-back games against the Saint John Sea Dogs. Cape Breton has straddled the line over the past month, going an even .500 in their last ten games.
