CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – While the 2020-2021 Charlottetown Islanders season will look slightly different in many aspects, one area that will remain constant is its presence on the radio. Saturday Night Hockey will broadcast live on Ocean 100 for a third season thanks to the continued partnership between the Islanders and Stingray Radio.
George Matthews returns to the play-by-play booth for another season to bring you all 17 Saturday night games on the Islanders 2020-2021 schedule, along with all playoff games. A legendary play-by-play commentator who has called over 1000 NHL games as the voice of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Matthews will take the lead on all games, while long-time colour commentator Cory Arsenault will join him in calling the action.
“Our partnership with Stingray Radio is a vital one to our organization,” said Islanders president of operations Craig Foster. “Saturday Night Hockey has helped deliver exciting Charlottetown Islanders action across Prince Edward Island for the past two seasons. As we carefully navigate this pandemic, this outlet has become even more important in reaching our fans around the province. We are excited to continue that partnership and work hand-in-hand with Ocean 100 and Hot 105.5.”
“The Charlottetown Islanders share our sense of community and service which makes this partnership a perfect fit.” said Mike Shannon, Operations Manager for Stingray Charlottetown. “Ocean 100 and Hot 105.5 have been dedicated to providing timely and accurate information to all of PEI during these uncertain times, and welcoming the return of hockey continues our mission of keeping Islanders connected, informed, and entertained. George and Cory as the broadcast team ensures our high standards of programming quality are not only met, but enhanced through their NHL level talent. We are fortunate to have them, and we’re thrilled to be able to continue Saturday Night Hockey on Ocean 100 this season!”
With the COVID-19 pandemic causing changes to the QMJHL’s regular season schedule, all Saturday Night Hockey broadcasts will feature Charlottetown’s five rival teams in the Maritimes Division; four games each against the Moncton Wildcats, Cape Breton Eagles, and the Saint John Sea Dogs, three games against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, and two games against the Halifax Mooseheads. The first Saturday Night Hockey broadcast of the season takes place on Saturday, October 3rd in Saint John against the Sea Dogs.
The 2020-2021 Charlottetown Islanders regular season gets underway on Friday, October 2nd when we visit the Moncton Wildcats at the Avenir Centre. Our first home game takes place on Friday, October 23rd against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
