Following several months of development, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is proud to unveil its new logo and brand guidelines ahead of its 2020 Entry Draft.
Following the 50th anniversary celebrations, the QMJHL decided it was time to open a new chapter in its history. Therefore, the Commissioner’s office began working on a new brand in collaboration with Nabi, a graphic design agency that is based in Drummondville.
The logo wasn’t entirely redesigned, but rather modernized while keeping the skate-shaped design as it is already one of the most influential sports brands in Canada.
Modernizing the QMJHL trademark allows the league to rebalance the logo by spacing the letters, increasing its thickness and adjusting the angles. A skate line was also removed, reducing space between the boot and the blade. The result is a more compact and more vigorous crest.
“After the 50th anniversary, we felt that we needed to begin a new chapter in the league’s history,” said QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau. “Designing a new brand is certainly always exciting, but we wanted to avoid a complete redesign of our logo. That’s why we decided to modernize the skate-shaped logo instead of completely changing the league’s brand identity.”
