The trophy has been awarded annually since 1981 to the player who best combines on-ice performances with school success. Past recipients of the award include a few current team staff members including Marc Denis, Daniel Lacroix and Jocelyn Thibault

Nominated for the award in 2018–2019, Rafaël Harvey-Pinard delivered yet another successful year in class and on the ice. The Saguenéens captain maintained a 92% average in Natural Sciences and will obtain his CEGEP diploma this summer. The 20-year-old has continuously showcased his character, perseverance and assiduity. He leads by example on all levels and his passage in a Chicoutimi will undoubtedly be beneficial for the franchise’s up and coming players.

Gabriel Proulx is the definition of perseverance and discipline. He knows how to be an exceptional leader in hockey and in the classroom. The Beloeil, QC native took no less than 19 online courses through Cégep à distance in the past two and a half years. That led to him completing his College Degree with an average of 86%. After playing three seasons in Cape Breton and one in Baie-Comeau, he’s been able to combine success on the ice and in class by providing consistent efforts. He will pursue his studies in Actuarial Sciences at Concordia University next fall.

The recipient of last season’s Marcel-Robert Trophy, Matthew Welsh is once again among the award’s finalists in 2019–2020. His academic record was nothing short of outstanding again this year. At the end of the current semester, he will have completed 23 courses of his University program in Business and Management. He has maintained an excellent GPA of 3.8 so far. Matthew is very committed to whatever he does and he’s very passionnate whenever he’s in class, on the ice or in his everyday life.
